LinuxMCE returns – Download Squad

LinuxMCE returns – Download Squad

LinuxMCE sounds promising. When I tried to get MythTV installed on Fedora (core 4 or 5, i don’t recall) I spent most of my time fighting to get hardware recognized and working… I finally got everything working after a few weeks just to wipe it clean and install win XP so I could play iNinja. I haven’t tried Ubuntu yet, even though that is the current hot distro. I may end up giving it a shot, but most likely I will try Fedora Core 6 with MythTV so my media pc and desktop can use the same repositories. Of course, I would be better off with a Win MCE installation or virtual machine so I can stream to my 360.

Xbox Update

MS has released a patch to prevent users from running their own code/operating systems on the Xbox 360.

I hope I haven’t installed it yet…

Firefox

First off, if you don’t have Firefox, you should get it. It is my favorite web browser out there currently.

There are a few extensions that I consider must haves:

  1. FasterFox
·This really speeds up your load times.
  2. Web Developer
·Like the name implies, this adds tons of functionality useful for web development and design.

  3. ForecastFox
    ·Weather updates in your browser

  4. Tab Mix Plus
·One minor thing I really missed about windows was middle clicking a tab in Firefox to close it. After switching to fedora, I never could find the option to allow that….until I installed this extenstion.

Update WordPress!

If you are running WordPress 2.1.1, you should update immediately.

Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar

This toolbar makes my job a lot easier.

Protolize.org

Protolize.org is awesome! This is the best collection of web tools I have seen yet.

Outlook Linker

This tool makes links you can put on your desktop or in your browser to open an Outlook item automatically.

If you are forced to use Outlook at work and have a ton of emails pertaining to a lot of different topics like I do, this tool is AWESOME. When I create a new folder for a work order, I add a link to the related emails in the folder, and I no longer have to spend any time digging when something new comes up.

It is totally free, but they do require an email address to send the download link to.

Mono Project

Mono Project

Now you can write AND run .net code on pretty much anything, for free. With Mono’s newest release, you can use Visual Basic. I’m not sure why you would want to, but you can if you feel the urge.
